West Midlands Region Volunteers

Opportunity: We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at 10 prisons across the West Midlands (HMP Featherstone, HMP Oakwood, and HMP Swinfen Hall). The IMB helps to ensure that proper standards for care and decency are maintained. Applicants do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support.
Requirements: Candidates need to be over 18 years of age and live within approximately 25 miles of the prison. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement.
Location: HMP Swinfen Hall; HMP Oakwood; HMP Featherstone; HMP Brinsford
Hours: 2 or 3 visits per month. This is an ongoing role with reappointment every 3 years to a maximum tenure of 15 years.
Expenses: Yes This is an unpaid, Voluntary role, but we pay your travel expenses and in certain circumstances, some loss of earnings and childcare/carer costs.
DBS: Yes
Closing date 11th September 2022. Our members are independent, unpaid volunteers whose role is to monitor the day-to-day life in their local facilities and ensure that people are treated fairly and humanely.
