West Midlands Region Volunteers

Opportunity: We are currently looking for new volunteers to join the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at 12 prisons across the West Midlands The IMB helps to ensure that proper standards for care and decency are maintained. Applicants do not need any special qualifications or experience as we will provide all necessary training and support.
Requirements: Candidates need to be over 18 years of age and live within approximately 25 miles of the prison. You need to be enthusiastic, open minded, possess effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement.
Location: HMP Birmingham, HMP Brinsford, HMP Dovegate, HMP Drake Hall, HMP Featherstone,HMP Hewell, HMP Long Lartin, HMP Oakwood, HMP Stoke Health ,HMP Swinfen Hall, HMP/YOI Werrington
Hours: 2 or 3 visits per month. Although this will be higher in the first year as members go through induction into the role .
Expenses: Yes This is an unpaid, Voluntary role, but we pay your travel expenses and in certain circumstances, some loss of earnings and childcare/carer costs.
DBS: Yes
Closing date 7th May 2023 Our members are independent, unpaid volunteers whose role is to monitor the day-to-day life in their local facilities and ensure that people are treated fairly and humanely.
