National Mentoring Day 25th October 2019
Mentoring Charity looking for Volunteer Mentors
Children’s charity Mentor Link is a National Schools Mentoring Award winner delivering dedicated mentoring and counselling service to schools across the West Midlands.
Mentor Link provides long term one to one social and emotional support to vulnerable and distressed children. The charity professionally recruits and trains volunteer Mentors, to listen to and support young people who may be facing difficulties such as anxiety, low self- esteem, bereavement, family breakdown, self-harm, relationships with others. Our aim is to create a more positive attitude towards themselves and learning. The well-being of these young people forms the focus of our work.
When Eve was referred to our service she had no self- confidence, her parents had divorced and she didn’t see her dad. There were members of the family who had mental health problems and autism. Eve had to care for members of her family.
Eve was mentored by Christine one of our trained volunteers. The mentoring support helped Eve become more self- confident and secure a place at college to study Childcare.
We are currently recruiting more volunteer mentors in your area. No qualifications are necessary, you just need to be a good listener, and role model with an interest in supporting young people, are able to commit to a minimum of six months volunteering, 1 hour a week with referred children generally during school hours.
Mentor Link is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including 2 satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS certificate. Induction training, and ongoing training is provided free of charge and travelling expenses paid.
We welcome enquiries from parents’, schools, health professionals or community organisations.
