Unit Fundraiser

Opportunity : Unit Fundraiser
The Unit Management Team is headed by the Unit Chair. The unit Fundraiser is a volunteer role who is directly responsible to the Unit Chair and has authority over UMT members in relation to fundraising. The Fundraiser is to support the chair and Treasurer by:
Identifying fundraising sources, including seeking advice and support from our National Support Centre Fundraising team.
Developing links with local contacts, business and producing a database of potential funders.
Raising awareness of the unit in the local community.
Provide support and guidance on fundraising requirements to other volunteers and assist the Unit Management Team in the generation of unit funds through marketing and communication activities .
Requirements: All new volunteers are required to undertake Induction Training including Safeguarding and Responsibility for Information. Further training is provided as required to support this role. Opportunity: Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV)
To assist in the development of young people as individuals and active citizens by providing safe and rewarding training, direction and guidance with the national training strategy for Sea Cadets.
To maintain the Sea Cadets Corps valves and assist the Training Officer to plan a varied training programme.
To promote and safeguard the Cadets welfare and ensure compliance with organisations Child Protection and Guidance.
To be responsible safety and the effective use of the unit’s resources and equipment
To keep relevant personal qualifications up to date and be aware of current good practice.
In conjunction with the unit Training Officer, direct cadets and adults to district and national training course to further personal and unit development.
Requirements: There are no essential requirements/skills as full training and support is offered to ensure that volunteers have the skills and knowledge to supports cadets in a range of activities both on and offshore.

Volunteer Independent Visitor.

Opportunity: Volunteer Independent Visitor.
Independent Visitors are adults who volunteer with us to offer one-to one support to children and young people who are living with foster family or in residential care.
The volunteer is separate from social services and all other agencies and is there just for the young person.
The aim of the role is about providing the young person with time and space to talk, feel listened too and valved and have some fun with their volunteer.
You will meet with your young person once a month on a long-term basis for as long as they want an Independent Visitor.
You will meet your young person what activity you plan to do, these could include activities such as going to the cinema, bowling, walking, or going to the local park.
Requirements: You do not need experience working with children and young people, just an interest in their development and welfare. An empathetic and caring nature is beneficial. Full training and support are provided.
Location : The volunteer Independent Visitor would collect the young person from their home, completed the activity and return them back home.
Hours: Monthly session take place during a weekday evening or on a weekend. Commitment to the role is essential and we ask for a least 2 years commitment post training

Opportunity: Bowling Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist and support our visually and blind bowlers. Volunteers will support bowlers by guiding them to the lanes, helping with positioning etc. We visit Castlegate, Dudley on a Friday once a month .
Walking Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help support visually impaired people to walk round a secure outdoor environment. Some of our members need guides, which will be the volunteers main role. We walk once a month on a Friday (usually the fourth Friday of the month) around West Park for an hour at a slow steady pace, stopping at a café for refreshments after walk . Must be happy to engage/chat with the members on the walk.

We would really like to target areas of high social deprivation where oral health needs of children are often greater, therefore we are relying on volunteers’ local knowledge to target these areas.
We would like volunteers to get in touch with schools, nurseries and groups to offer to go along and deliver the Brightbites programme.

Get Out There Group Volunteer

Opportunity: Get out there Group Volunteer
GOT groups are a growing division of Sense that cater for children between 6 and 16 with complex needs.
We provide a 4-hour social setting which caters for children and families who need respite. We offer activities such as games, puzzles, arts and crafts, experiments, cooking and sensory play. We aim to tailor sessions to the needs, interests and abilities of the children we support and put pupil voice at the centre of all we do.
As a volunteer you will make sure everyone has a great time and can make most of the activities on offer. You will need lots of energy, a warm and welcoming personality and to be happy getting stuck into a wide range of tasks and activities all of what everyone has the best day they can together
Requirements: Fun and friendly and confident to meet and spend time with disabled people. Willing to develop the knowledge and skills to communicate with young people who have mufti sensory impairments and may use a wide range of communication methods. Able to work well in a team and be flexible about the role you play during the day depending on what’s needed by individuals and activities. Reliable and punctual.

As a volunteer of Wolverhampton LGBT+ you will be passionate about the celebration of the LGBT+ community and about promoting equality and diversity.
You will also have a keen interest in LGBT+ issues, with a desire to improve services for people living, working and visiting the City of Wolverhampton.
As a volunteer you will have access to knowledge and expertise from a range of organisations all working towards a common goal.

South Staffordshire Narrow Boat

Opportunity: Crew Members and or Skippers
To operate the Ernest Thomas II during canal boat trips for the elderly, disabled etc . Full training will be given free of charge to NCBA qualification.

To help with bookings etc
Fund Raising
Due to the age of the boat, we are trying to raise £200,000 over the next two years to fund a new all electric boat.
Maintenance
The maintenance of Ernest Thomas II and mooring involving cleaning, painting, electrical and mechanical repairs as needed.
Requirements: The trips can be a little physical so being relative fit is beneficial other than that just a willing pair of hands as training will be given. Induction and training is also provided.
Location: The Ernest Thomas II is moored in Castlecroft Lane WV3 8JU. Canal trips are run north to Aldersley , as far south as The Round Oak Pub in Wombourne all are return trips.
Hours: Volunteers can choose which days/trips to take part in. The trips are run on a seasonal basis normally from the end of March through to end of October. Trips will either commence at 10am and finish at 4.00pm depending on the length of the trip and how busy the canal is during the summer.

We are planning two open days this year, the first is 27th March 2024 .Interested Volunteers are welcome to visit us at Castlecroft Lane to have a look round , talk to current volunteers and if interested arrange a taster trip.

The Vegan Society

Vegan Community Organiser

Opportunity: Every month you will be sent a collection of tasks to choose from. We create these from our programme of campaigns. You would be the point of contact for Advocates in your area, sharing these tasks and coordinating activities, such as stalls and lobbying councillors. We will provide you with a campaign toolkit and be in regular contact with you to ensure you have everything you need. You will also be invited to our private Facebook group and WhatsApp chat.
We would expect you to provide any updates from your group and give feedback on each task on each task.
You will also be responsible for welcoming new advocates in your area, we will let you know when somebody applies, and you will help them to get involved with any activities. As the main contact for Advocates this role does require some awareness of safeguarding and data protection procedures and policy. You will also be health and safety contact for your group. There will be full training on your role in this, as well as a handbook and ongoing guidance and support.
Requirements: Great organisational skills, experience of working to specific dates and deadlines and experience of coordinating people. Ability to motivate people around the topic of veganism. When a new Advocate applies to work with you, we would like them to be contacted within seven days
Location: From Volunteers own local area around the West Midlands
Hours: You should be able to commit around two days a month to carry out actions and this usually spread out across the month and commitment of 6 months

Vegan Community Advocate

Opportunity: Being an Advocate for Veganism with The Vegan Society will mean communicating with people in your local community. You will share the benefits of a vegan lifestyle.
You will stay in touch with the Organiser and bring your passion to tasks. Activities can range from staffing a stall to giving a talk at an employee events , writing to a local newspaper or lobbying an MP.
Messaging can differ every month. Part of our mission statement is to ensure people can remain vegan, so you might focus on getting more vegan options available in local business. Or within our Live Vegan for Less campaign, you may share cheap vegan recipes to help people with cost of living.
Requirements: Committed to veganism and the mission of The Vegan Society. A good communicator and confident in communicating with people from a range of backgrounds. Regular availability and a willingness to stay committed to actions
Location: From volunteers own local area around the West Midlands. Advocates can be involved in events and stalls as well as remote tasks from the comfort of their own home.
Hours: We ask to engage in a minimum of 4 to 6 actions per year. For example of an action could be writing to an MP or holding a stall . On occasion, there may also be online meetings to plan for actions or provide training. And a commitment of 3 months

To observe and record the condition of listed buildings in the region. We have developed an app which maps all the listed buildings in the West Midlands. Developing wood working skills to cut, sand, assemble and finish simple products such as shelves, planters and benches.
Some people also get involved with sales, marketing, administration, designing products or any other tasks required to operate a busy and successful small community business.
Although there will be plenty of time to focus on your area of interest, we would like to train our volunteers to be competent in all aspects of the business.

Opportunity: Supporting CT staff on the ‘Lets Chat’ project to meet and greet with members of the public, offer them tea and coffee and generally be willing and able to sit down and chat with people , offer them a friendly eat and with Training, be able to signpost them to other services that third party partners are offering . These activities are taking place in three ways:
Mobile Unit –A number of our minibuses are being converted, to allow space for chairs and table, a place to make hot beverages and information boards containing information about local service .Across the week these mobile units will visit a number of pre-determined places within the local community and park up for a number of hours, allowing members of the public to come on board, meet people and speak with representatives from several organisations offering their services. The purpose of this project is to reduce loneliness and Isolation for local residents. We are looking for volunteers to join us and participate in this project by meeting people and providing a friendly ear to listen and to join in conversation. The same service is being offered in static bus station buildings and generally across our Passenger Service.
Requirements: Friendly outgoing, sympathetic, a good listener.
Location: The project is set across three main areas, which are Coventry, Mid-Birmingham and the Black Country .The Black country will encompass Wolverhampton, Dudley and Sandwell.
The mobile units will travel around the Black Country on set days
Station sites in Dudley and West Bromwich .Our Passenger service locations vary.
Hours: The Lets Chat project is operational between Monday-Saturday and the hours of 08.30-6.30pm.

Supporting members on Activities.
Opportunity:
Sighted Guide: Assisting members on wellbeing walks.
Bowling Assistant: Being a sighted guide/bringing the bowling balls to members and taking them to the lane. Offering encouragement and being as descriptive as possible to support members at the bowling alley to aim in the correct direction in order to hit all the pins.
Shooting Range: We require volunteers to assist and load pellets. Training will be provided by the shooting range. Need to offer guidance and assistance to members with the sound and laser equipment used. A copy of the league rules will be given to volunteers to assist our member should they want to participate in the winter shooting league. Need to be patient and offer our members encouragement. Score cards, and results will be given out at the end by relevant staff. Training will be provide at the Shooting range.
Tennis: We require sighted guides to team up with groups and individuals to offer encouragement , build confidence in the sport, be patient, support with set up and packing away , collecting balls, being descriptive with our members and having a general friendly encouraging approach.
Requirements: Someone that is active. Has a friendly and encouraging approach and someone that may have worked with people with disabilities previously would be an advantage. It is important to be descriptive as possible to prove our members with the relevant support when participating in activities .Induction and training provided.
