Breeding Dog Volunteer
Opportunity: Breeding Dog Volunteer As a breeding dog volunteer, you will provide a full time, loving home for one of our guide dog mums, you will help keep her in top condition and health for her vital role, while also getting to enjoy all the benefits of a well-behaved loving dog. You will support your guide dog mum throughout her pregnancy and during her birth at home. You will then help to take care of her puppies during their seven weeks of life until they are ready to move onto the next stage of their guide dog journey. | |
Requirements: Need to live within hours drive of our national centre, you will need to have a car and be able to travel to our National centre. Your home will need an area suitable for your guide dog mum to give birth and need access to a secure garden. Volunteers attended an Induction Training Day at our National before their guide do mum is placed with them. Once matched with a guide dog, we then run an 8-week dog training class course, usually on Thursday morning at the national centre. The classes are an hour long. You will received all training you need for the role and you will have full support of our expert dog behaviour and welfare team and dedicated 24/7 support from our specialist breeding team. | |
Location: This role is available to volunteers in the Wolverhampton area who lives within an hour drive of the Guide Dogs National Centre, just outside Leamington Spa, CV33 9QJ | |
Hours: Our guide dog mum will come to you when she is 12-14 months old and will be with you until she retires at about 7 years old. You will have the opportunity to keep her as your own dog. | |
Expenses: Yes, we cover all the cost for our guide dog mum, including her food, vet bills and equipment or bedding she needs. | |
