Witness Service Outreach Volunteer

Opportunity: Witness Service Outreach Volunteer. Volunteers will help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witness can give their best evidence and helping them feel safe and informed. The witness service also supports bereaved family members, friends and family who are accompany witness in court. We will provide full training. Our initial Core Learning is a mix of eLearning, online facilitated sessions and on court training and takes approximately 3 months to complete
Requirements: Training will take approximately 3 months to complete. With the commitment to volunteer for at least 12 months.
Location: Wolverhampton Crown and Magistrates Courts
Hours: One full day per week (Monday -Friday)
Expenses: Yes
DBS: Yes

The Witness Service provides free, independent support to any witness giving evidence in criminal courts in England and Wales.

Volunteer Translator This role is now suspended

Opportunity: Volunteer Translator-Nationwide/Remote Would you like to use your translation skills to support survivors of modern slavery? Many of our service users don’t use English as their first language and reply on high quality translation to understand information. We are looking for volunteers who can accurately translate English text into any of the languages: Mandarin, Bengali, Arabic, Amharic, French, Albanian, Vietnamese, Romanian, Polish, Tigrinya, Punjab, Urdu and Hindi.
Requirements: To hold a translating or interpreting qualification or to hold a degree ( in any subject) and be fluent in speaking and writing in English and one or more of the languages above , have excellent command of English and other languages ,grammatical accuracy, excellent proof reading skills ,excellent IT skills, able to work independently, excellent communication skills, ability to maintain confidentiality , need to be 18 years old or over , must have use of own computer .
Location: Remote from home
Hours: Flexible, we ask for a 6-month commitment after training
Expenses: Yes Reasonable, agreed expenses are reimbursed in line with our expenses policy
DBS: Yes, Basic DBS

Requirements: Need to be computer literate and have a good standard of spoken and written English. Must be able to attend appointments across the West Midlands To regularly attend volunteer or staff meetings, to attend training as and when required including health and safety boundaries, safeguarding, manual handing and confidentiality.
Location: Outside of Birmingham City Centre. Location to be discussed during recruitment process.
Hours: Weekdays, we ask for 6 months commitment following training.
Expenses: Yes. We pay travel expenses and any additional expenses inline with our expenses policy.
