Community Liaison Volunteer

Opportunity: Community Liaison Volunteer
Act as a contact point for referrals from healthcare professionals.
Provide patients with appropriate Diabetes UK information such as leaflets.
Tell patients about other Diabetes UK resources and services.
Go to some diabetes clinics or other events, as agreed by doctors’ surgery.
Requirements: An interest in talking to people. Confident speaking to members of the public and healthcare professionals. Good communication and listening skills. Enthusiastic and approachable. Commitment to follow Diabetes UK policies and procedures. A commitment to support the work of Diabetes UK and represent Diabetes UK in a positive way.
Induction and training is provided.
Location: Local Community
Hours: Flexible as required when patients are referred
Expenses: Yes Restrictions outlined in our expenses policy, which volunteers have access to.

Link Volunteer-H.O.P.E Project

Opportunity: Link Volunteer-H.O.P.E Project
A 2 year project supporting the local community of Wolverhampton to prevent social isolation.
The task you will be asked to perform will depend on the needs of the service, the person you are matched with and your personal level of confidence, experience and interests. This may include the following :
• Telephone or face to face support for isolated housebound people across the city.
• Support people to utilise technology to reduce their isolation and ensure that their health and social needs are being met.
Other types of support you might be asked to provide include supporting people :
Identify and attend social activities or groups. Learn a new skill or find a new hobby
Help to cope with their long term conditions by getting involved with community activities. Link people with support service such as befriending .Try out new activities that make them feel healthier such as walking or swimming
Requirements: Excellent communication skills, caring and motived by desire to help others. Ability to use some digital technology for training/communications
Location: Wolverhampton area
Hours: We ask that volunteers commit to least one duty per week for at least 3 months .Shift availability to be confirmed by your supervising Link Worker.
Expense: TBC

The volunteers element of the service is manged by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and works in partnership with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Charity and the Wolverhampton Voluntary and Community Action(WVCA)

Events Speaker , Researcher

Opportunity: Event Speaker
Representing Acorns by speaking to groups, organisations and businesses.
Accepting donations on our behalf and holding cheque presentations. Delivering presentations and speaking publicly to an audience.
Researcher
Conducting research into the local area. Finding events and funding opportunities. Researching local businesses, schools, faith groups, community groups that we could get in contact with.
Requirements: Event speaker: Confident to speak publicly Organised and prepared to deliver the presentations we provide Friendly –to represent Acorns in the local community Flexible –we will work to fit the group and you together but it would be great if you are flexible with a range of times. We will offer support to ensure you are comfortably to speak publicly about Acorns and provide you with info to ensure you’re are confident enough to answer any questions etc.
Researcher: Curious and inquisitive- to find new opportunities Organised –clear approach to maximise efficiency Comfortable using a computer for research(access to your own computer and Wi-Fi Induction/training is provided.
Location: Event speaker: Various (happy for you to provide areas you will be happy to travelling too.
Researcher: Home based
Hours: Event speaker: Times can vary- we will work with you and the group to arrange a time that suits you both.
