Volunteer Host ,Driver ,Group Coordinator

Opportunity: Volunteer Host .
Sunday afternoon tea party host, bringing older people and volunteers together for an afternoon of stories ,laughter and conversation. By volunteering you can make a real difference to the lives of older people who are otherwise isolated form family and friends .
Drivers: Collect the same older guest(s)each month and take them to a different local host home where they all enjoy an afternoon tea party, There are usually three to five drivers in a group and there are sometimes also one or two reserve drivers to cover for holidays and emergencies.
Group Coordinators: Plan the monthly tea parties, ensure that they run smoothly with every older guest picked up and take home. Coordinators ensure a host is arranged for every month. The Coordinator welcomes and ID checks new volunteers into group, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.
Coordinators also meet and assess new older members prior to them joining the group. All Group Coordinators are allowed to one of our nation-wide team of support officers who are there to give support and advice.
Requirements: Hosts : Downstairs toilet access required and less than three steps into the house.
Drivers: Full drivers licences, valid insurance and access to a car required.
Location: Host & Group Coordinators : Homebased . Drivers : Across Wolverhampton
Hours: Hosts: 3-4 hours a year. Group Coordinator/Drivers : 3-4 hours per month
Expenses: No
DBS: Yes only for group Coordinators.
Monthly, usually Sunday afternoon, each older guest is collected from home by a volunteer driver and taken to a volunteer host home to join a small group for tea, talk and companionship The group is warmly welcomed by a different host each month, whilst the driver and older guest remain the same so over the months and years, acquaintances turn into friends and loneliness is replaced by companionship.

Guide Dogs

Breeding Dog Volunteer This role is now suspended

Opportunity: Breeding Dog Volunteer
As a breeding dog volunteer, you will provide a full time, loving home for one of our guide dog mums, you will help keep her in top condition and health for her vital role, while also getting to enjoy all the benefits of a well-behaved loving dog. You will support your guide dog mum throughout her pregnancy and during her birth at home. You will then help to take care of her puppies during their seven weeks of life until they are ready to move onto the next stage of their guide dog journey.
Requirements: Need to live within hours drive of our national centre, you will need to have a car and be able to travel to our National centre. Your home will need an area suitable for your guide dog mum to give birth and need access to a secure garden. Volunteers attended an Induction Training Day at our National before their guide do mum is placed with them. Once matched with a guide dog, we then run an 8-week dog training class course, usually on Thursday morning at the national centre. The classes are an hour long. You will received all training you need for the role and you will have full support of our expert dog behaviour and welfare team and dedicated 24/7 support from our specialist breeding team.
Location: This role is available to volunteers in the Wolverhampton area who lives within an hour drive of the Guide Dogs National Centre, just outside Leamington Spa, CV33 9QJ
Hours: Our guide dog mum will come to you when she is 12-14 months old and will be with you until she retires at about 7 years old. You will have the opportunity to keep her as your own dog.
Expenses: Yes, we cover all the cost for our guide dog mum, including her food, vet bills and equipment or bedding she needs.
DBS: No
Our guide mums are perfect for families. They are specially selected for their ideal temperament and characteristics and have the very best guide dog genes.

Volunteer Driver

Opportunity: Volunteer Driver
We need volunteers like you so that everyone who needs one can get a wheelchair. Each year we hire out or loan over 75,000 wheelchairs to help people to get around after an injury or illness. Whether it is delivery or collection for people at home, or moving equipment between buildings you will be joining a friendly team of people who help to get people moving again.
The role will include deliver and collect wheelchairs using a Red Cross van. Load/unload wheelchairs ready for daily runs. Show people how to use equipment. Use a computer-based stock control system
Requirements: Physically able to safely lift or move wheelchairs and other mobility equipment. Experienced driver (at least two years) and age 21 and over .Confident driving a delivery van. Enjoy meeting people and good people skills .Good IT Skills .Able to commit to a regular weekly shift.

Hours: Monday-Friday Minimum 5 hours per shift
