
Conservation Volunteer & Narrowboat Crew Volunteer
| Opportunity: Conservation Volunteer To undertake practical environmental conservation tasks in and around Wolverhampton for the benefit of nature and /or to improve access to nature for the local community. Tasks can include tree planting, coppicing, deadheading, pond creation and management, habitat improvements along the canal and making forest school/woodland resources. Narrowboat Crew To assist a fully licenced Boat Master (Skipper) aboard our 70’narrowboat Trebalisa While the Skipper looks after the boat, the crew normally looks after the passengers and the passenger cabin. This includes completing a passenger list, loading the passengers and ensuring that there are enough essentials (drinking water, tea, coffee, hand wash etc) for the trip. Others (by prior agreement) will also operate any canal locks on the journey and if required assist the skipper with mooring the boat. You will receive full training (and experience) is given to all new crew members with on going support form Skippers and other crew members as well as periodic training refreshers. | |
| Location: Conservation vol: Based at Wildside Activity Centre Hordern Road WV6 OHA although tasks may be taken places at other sites. Narrow boat vol: Based at Wildside Centre, WV6 OHA ,trips take place mostly on Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal occasionally on the Shropshire Union Canal. | |
| Hours: Conservation Vol: Flexible , Tuesday &Thursday 9;30am Finish times will depend on the task on any given day but we usually finish by 3;30pm Narrowboat crew: Variable dependents on bookings. All trips are between 2 & 7 hours, with most being around 4 hours. | |
